Video Production Reflection
I have been transferred to Mrs. Cerelli’s team time and I’m pretty excited because I heard I was going to make videos. The first thing that happened is that Mrs.Cerelli announced we were going to do an iVIE video and research, which sounded very interesting. My group was Ashley and Evan. I wasn’t really excited about that but I decided it’ll work.
At the start of the project, I was pretty confused on what we do first so my partners had to help me out a lot. We had categories we could chose like how to’s and what to do. I thought that was pretty cool. We picked the humanities and art to do with it. Then we chose to do history of art. Our first idea was to each do an artist, and do research on them but we realized the video had to be 5 minutes long. So we only did one artist the one who had the most research. That person with the most research so happened to be me because I spent my time researching and not playing around(I’m actually nervous to be on camera). So the story was Ashley and Evan goes into a time machine (a box that has the words time machine) and see my/Donatello’s sculptures.
My research was mostly done on Biography.com, Artble.com, and DONATELLO.com. I got about half my research done on Biography.com. I learned that he died in 1466 and was born in 1386. Then, I researched about his sculpture David, and that it was the interpretation of what he thought the one from the bible looked like. That made me think that if Donatello’s David is an interpretation that means Michelangelo’s David was his interpretation. The David was also naked. The Marzocco statue of a lion was probably my favorite. It was very cool to learn all the things he sculpted, and how he sculpted them. He used a chisel to make most of his sculptures. He used bronze and sandstone mostly. This information was very interesting and this makes him my favorite artist now.(There was also a rap battle that was The Artists vs TMNT)
The script was that Ashley and Evan go into a time machine and type out the dates and places the major parts of his life. It was his birth, then his most popular sculptures from first ones to last ones, and at the end my death. I told some facts about my sculptures so the watcher learns something about him before the video is over. I think the way we did this was good and that I can see myself doing the same type of work but with another topic. At first I thought the video was going to be a one take but it took so much longer.
The video production was very hard and took a long while until the final product was done. I thought my costume was bad but my teammates said it was ok. It was a long white shirt with black pants that pulled up with long socks. I also put a long brown string around my waste. We had to do a lot of voice overs that were pretty bad at times. We did shoot a sculpture in different places. Whenever Ashley and Evan go into the time machine Ashley put the date and place in the bottom corner. It took us about 3-4 weeks to finish the whole thing. This was one of the most frustrating and funniest thing I’ve done in school. I’m really looking forward to do this again with a different topic.
In conclusion, this whole process was very educational and fun. But I think the group played too much and got a little carried away. I liked how it had so much things to do and not just straightforward research then video. I am really happy to be transferred to this team time.
